| "Alumnus" is derived from the pre-classical Latin perfect passive participle of alere, "to nourish"; it means a 'nursling' or 'foster child'. The term is often mistakenly thought of as synonymous with "graduate". However, anyone who has attended the school is an alumnus (or alumna). Graduates or those who attended women's colleges, are referred to as alumnae. [3] Graduates or those who attended coeducational schools are referred to as alumni.[4] The term is sometimes incorrectly shortened to alum which stands for "an alumna or alumnus" [5] Alumni reunions are popular events at many institutions. They are usually organized by alumni associations and are often social occasions for fundraising. Recently, the definition of "alumni" has expanded to include people who have departed from any kind of organization or program. As such, one can potentially be a "corporate alum" of XYZ Company, or an alum of a military branch, non-profit organization, fraternities and sororities, or training process. At most public schools and a few universities in the UK, and to a lesser extent in Australia and Canada, the phrases old boy and old girl are traditionally used for former school pupils, and old member for former university students. Some will use a specific term clearly linked to the school name, such as Old..."
2) "Websites" -- As to alumni websites A website (or Web site) is a collection of web pages, typically common to a particular domain name or subdomain on the World Wide Web on the Internet. A web page is a document, typically written in HTML, that is almost always accessible via HTTP, a protocol that transfers information from the website's server to display in the user's web browser. All publicly accessible websites are seen as constituting a mammoth "World Wide Web" of information. The pages of a website will be accessed from a common root URL called the homepage, and usually reside on the same physical server. The URLs of the pages organize them into a hierarchy, although the hyperlinks between them control how the reader perceives the overall structure and how the traffic flows between the different parts of the sites. Some websites require a subscription to access some or all of their content. Examples of subscription sites include many business sites, parts of many news sites, gaming sites, message boards, Web-based e-mail services, and sites providing real-time stock market data. - 1 History

| The first on-line website appeared in 1991. On 30 April 1993, CERN announced that the World Wide Web would be free to anyone.[1] A copy of the original first Web page, created by Tim Berners-Lee, is kept here. A website may be the work of an individual, a business or other organization and is typically dedicated to some particular topic or purpose. Any website can contain a hyperlink to any other website, so the distinction between individual sites, as perceived by the user, may sometimes be blurred. Websites are written in, or dynamically converted to, HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) and..."
